2014 Crystal Eagle Award

The Owners’ Counsel of America will present the 2014 Crystal Eagle to Coy Koontz, Jr., on January 25, 2014 at ALI-CLE conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Crystal Eagle award is given annually to an individual who has made a substantial contribution toward protecting the civil right of private property ownership. Michael Rikon Authors NYLJ Article: “The Valuation of a Golf Course in a Tax Assessment Challenge-Not a Gimme”

Michael Rikon authored an article published in the New York Law Journal about a recent tax certiorari proceeding, Matter of Hempstead Country Club v. Board of Assessors, 2013 N.Y. App. Div. LEXIS 7156. The decision, authored by the Honorable Thomas A. Dickerson and decided on November 6, 2013, involved a challenge to the tax assessments made on 123 acres of property in Nassau County used as a private, not-for-profit golf course. The New Condemnation Conference

Many years ago, there was an organization known as the New York Condemnation Conference. The Conference had as its members, appraisers, right of way agents, attorneys, relocation experts and anyone else interested in eminent domain. The organization had luncheon meetings at restaurants a few times a year with guest speakers, sometimes followed on occasion with a tour of a project.
