This year’s Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference will be held from October 12, 2017 to October 13, 2017.

The annual Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference is presented by the William and Mary Property Rights Project and is named in recognition of Toby Prince Brigham and Gideon Kanner for their lifetime contributions to private property rights.  The conference is designed to bring together members of the bench, bar and academia to explore recent developments in the laws that affect property rights.  The Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference began in 2004 at William and Mary Law School, Williamsburg, Virginia.

Each year, the conference awards the Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize to an individual whose work has advanced the cause of property rights and has contributed to the overall awareness of the important role property rights occupy in the broader scheme of individual liberty.  The Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference is renowned for its outstanding panel discussions and for bringing together the bench, bar and academics on its panels.  The conference is notable for its encouragement of active participation from the audience through its question and answer segments with each of the panels.

The conference is presenting the Brigham-Kanner award this year to Professor David L. Callies, Benjamin A. Kudo Professor of Law, William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii.

The conference will include the following panel discussions.  Panel 1: The Future of Land Use Regulation: A Tribute to Callies.  Panel 2: Challenges to the Western Idea of Property.  Panel 3: Property Rights in Water, and Panel 4: The Denominator Problem and Other Emerging Issues in the Regulator Taking Field.

The participants in the programs include law professors and extraordinary practitioners.

The program begins with a reception and dinner on Thursday evening at 6:30 P.M. held in the Great Hall, Wren Building at William Mary College.  The Wren Building is the oldest college building still standing in the United States.  It was constructed in 1695 and 1700.
